Way back in the mists of time, before the advent of camera phones or even digital cameras, our good friend Steve Wales created River Legacy by handing over the events and assets of his company to create a charitable trust. After fifteen years of leadership Steve has now retired as RL President. Very often over that period River Legacy was just Steve, plugging away and toiling to put on these events that help to support paddling in England and Wales. Without Steve’s dedication it’s unlikely that events such as Teifi Tour and National Student Rodeo would be as successful as they are now, or that us old boys would be looking back on events like Dee Tour and Polzeath with such fond memories. Having said that, River Legacy has always been about more than a bunch of paddlers on the ale in a field – When we achieved Registered Charity status we summarised our aims as ‘Providing funding, facilities and support for paddlesports in England and Wales’. Thanks to the hard work of Steve, and those that he managed to rope in to help along the way, we’ve been able to provide funding for a number of projects that help paddlers get on the water each and every weekend. This, above all, is the core reason that all our volunteers pitch in to help. So, next time you’re at the bar at one of our events remember that our profits go to help paddlesports in the UK, and maybe treat yourself, and us, to an extra shandy. More importantly than that though, if you’re aware of a paddlesports project that River Legacy could help out with, be it help with fundraising or by way of a River Legacy donation, let us know. Just grab us at the bar or drop us an email on email@example.com We’ll be raising a toast of thanks to Steve at NSR – To Steve Wales, with thanks for 15 years of hard work and dedication. The River Legacy Team
Hope everyone who came to join us at Teifi Tour had as much fun as we had! It was amazing turnout, with huge numbers on the water and partying hard over the weekend. Big thanks to everyone who helped make the event happen, all our RL volunteers, the guys and girls at Llandysul Paddlers, and to Whitewater Consultancy, Yak Adventure Equipment, Robson Paddles UK and Pyranha Kayaks for the kind donations of prizes! See you next time!
Oh my. So that was National Student Rodeo 2014. Big River Legacy love must go to all of those who came together to make it happen, especially the lovely Rodeo Bosses from Luucc as well as all our wonderful volunteers. Huge thanks too to the guys at Marquees.Com Ltd and SQUAWK Brewing Company for supporting River Legacy at NSR this year. We love you all!
This winter will officially be a busy time for the River Legacy volunteers, with Teifi Tour happening on the 24-26th of October, then a mere week later were up t’north for the almighty Tyne Tour on the 1-2 of November! What a crazy couple of weeks that’s going to be! Check out both websites for more details of what’s going down.
A few of the RL crew were down at BUCS Canoe Polo this weekend. Had a great time being on the drinking side of the bar, and partying with Extreme Events. Thanks to the guys from Loughborough Uni for the invite. Hope everyone who competed had a good weekend.
Hope everybody had as good a time as we did at National Student Rodeo 2013. Big Legacy thanks must go to all our volunteers who worked so hard to make the party happen, Rodeo Bosses Ben, Harry and Tom and everyone at Luucc and Peak Uk Shop. We love you all. Photos will follow soon….
This year’s event was the first year that River Legacy had been involved in organising the Tryweryn Festival. Our involvement came about as part of our recent donation to Canoe Wales, and on the strength of the weekend we cannot wait to go back next year!
The event had plenty happening on the water, with events organised the guys at Canoe Wales and the Festival sponsors, and River Legacy brought the evening’s entertainment.
The Saturday night party was particularly enjoyable, with food from our sponsors at Pieminister and superb music from Liverpool band ‘The Grace’
There’s some photos of the party and paddling over on the Tryweryn Festival facebook page, which can be found at www.facebook.com/trywerynfestival.
River Legacy are delighted to be involved in this year’s Tryweryn Fest, which takes place on 9th & 10th June 2012 at the National White Water Centre near Bala in North Wales.
There’ll be plenty going on, with films, lectures and of course a brilliant River Legacy party.
More details will follow soon.
Another year, and another Biggest Ever Rodeo! This year, over 1,100 students headed down to Holme Pierrepont for the National Student Rodeo, and were rewarded with an epic weekend of partying and paddling.
Leeds University Union Canoe Club did their usual sterling job of organising the world’s biggest freestyle kayaking competition, and River Legacy put on a huge party to match.
Big thanks to all who helped make this weekend a resounding success, especially all at LUUCC, Extreme Events and all our River Legacy volunteers.
We took lots of photos from the event, which can be found on our official facebook page, or by following the links below:
We’ve managed to extend capacity and online registration will reopen tomorrow morning! There are still limited places so remember to get on it early. The campsite capacity is less than the party so when we reach that then we’ll be selling party only tickets. You’ll still get a wristband for the party both nights but will need to sort out your own accommodation. Registration will close when we reach capacity or at 11pm on Thursday.
