Why Volunteer?

Working for a charitable organisation looks great on your CV, and will help you develop skills in general areas such as team working as well as role specific skills. Also, by volunteering for River Legacy you will be directly involved in helping improve facilities for paddlesports in England and Wales.

What kind of people does River Legacy want?

We are always looking for people with specific skills for example cooks, bar managers or technical crew, but the most important attribute we look for in volunteers is enthusiasm! We always need hard working, fun loving people to help us set up the parties and staff the bars.

It takes every type of person to make River Legacy a success, people who are good at fixing things, problem solvers, cooks, arty people, loud people, organisers, improvisers, motivators, the list could go on forever – but unless you’re work shy or lazy – you can definitely help us make these events and projects happen.

River Legacy rely on it’s volunteers to make events happen and you might be surprised to know that nobody in River Legacy gets paid… so now you might be wondering why we even bother? It’s a reasonable question, but the answer to that becomes clear when you help us run an event…

The volunteering team are all like minded individuals and there’s a strong sense of unity amongst us, if you like making others happy or just like playing with tools, River Legacy is for you.

What happens at a River Legacy event?

It’s not just the big events that River Legacy put on, we also organise our own volunteer paddles and parties, or paddle parties which are equally as epic as the main events we put on!

While setting up and running the events it’s not all work and no play… it’s all work and play. We can’t lie – it’s a lot of work but it doesn’t feel like it at all and we’re always kept fed and watered (or you feed us!) and eat together as the legacy family with our stash of alcohol for some fun and games before another day of fun.

After finishing setting up and everyone’s partying, there is absolutely nothing better than seeing a marquee full of people having an unforgettable time knowing that you’ve played a part in making those smiles appear on their faces. Friendships in the team aside, this alone is enough to make it worthwhile.

And for the students amongst you – charity work always makes a good addition to your CV!
